US approves sale of F-16 fighter planes to Bulgaria

daajis.com:- The United States (US) on Monday (4/4/2022) agreed to a deal to sell F-16 fighter aircraft to Bulgaria. The Pentagon said the deal was worth $1.6 billion.

"The Department of State has made a decision approving a possible Foreign Military Sale to the Bulgarian Government of F-16 C/D Block 70 Aircraft, and related equipment worth $1.6 billion," the Pentagon said in a statement. 5/4/2022).

The Pentagon said such a sale would support the United States' foreign policy and national security goals. The sale also helps improve the security of NATO allies, who are a force for political stability and economic progress in Europe.

The Pentagon said the sale of fighter planes and other military equipment was aimed at helping boost Bulgaria's defenses. Including Bulgaria's ability to deal with current and future threats.

"This sale allows the Bulgarian Air Force to deploy modern combat aircraft on a regular basis in the Black Sea region," the Pentagon said.

The proposed deal includes the purchase of four F-16 C Block 70 aircraft, and four F-16 D Block 70 aircraft. In addition, the purchase also includes 11 engines, 11 Enhanced Programmable Display Generators and 11 AN/APG-83 Actives. Electronically Scanned Array (AESA) Scalable Agile Beam Radars.


The United States also agreed to sell 19 Advanced Medium-Range Air-to-Air Missiles (AMRAAM) to Bulgaria. Washington has accelerated efforts to bolster the defenses of NATO member states amid Russia's invasion of Ukraine.
